It's Been Awhile

Sorry about that. I've been extremely busy this semester because I have six classes. But I have started two new shows. Slowly.

The first show is Sleepy Hollow. It is the newest show on Fox and it is excellent. To give an overview, Ichabod Crane, from the original Sleepy Hollow-Headless Horseman tale, wakes up in present day, having last been conscious during the Revolutionary War. And so begins the start of the apocalypse. Because what else would happen? The show follows Crane, and police-officer Abby Mills as they battle the forces of darkness together. It's a phenomenal show. My only complaint is Crane wears the same set of clothes...from the 1700s. You'd think he'd get a new outfit.

The second show is Arrow. A CW show. This show follows Oliver Queen and his return to civilization after being shipwrecked on an island for five years. Also now he's a superhero called the Green Arrow. Or a bow and arrow shooting vigilante called The Hood (so creative), depending on who you're talking to. My favorite part? Felicity. The blonde, brilliant, and hilariously awkward IT tech. You get one brief moment of her and instantly want more. And you get it. It takes a little bit to get there, but you do. My least favorite thing? Or I suppose I should say the most ridiculous thing is Ollie's disguise. Or lack of. Seriously. If eye makeup made people into unrecognizable super heroes, women would've taken over the world by now.

I Am Woman Hear Me Roar

Today I'm am going to give you my top three shows featuring strong female leads. And you should watch them.

1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
At this point, BTVS is a classic. Both the film and the TV series. But I'm focused more on the TV show in this post. The title really sums up the premise. A girl named Buffy is the Chosen One. She slays vampires, demons, monsters, gods, and frequently stops the apocalypse. She does all of that while going through high school, boy troubles, friends becoming witches, and much more. Buffy is a young lady with super powers. With the weight of the world on her shoulders. She kicks ass every night, but since she is a human being, she also deals with the feeling of being vulnerable and lonely. Watching tiny little Buffy save the world over and over with her horrifying puns is one of my favorite things to do. An interviewer once asked Joss Whedon (the writer/director/producer guy) why he kept writing strong female leads instead of the typical male leads. His answer: "Because people keep asking me that question." All seasons of Buffy are on Netflix.

2. Lost Girl
I sort of touched on this with my post about the entire show, but it bears repeating. Bo is a gorgeous, butt-kicking succubus who refuses to commit to Light or Dark Fae. She's a leader. She's not sexually shamed. She is a character who makes her own decisions. Bo isn't the only woman you should be watching the show for, however. Her best friend, Kenzi, a human holds her own in a world she really doesn't belong in. She is unswerving in her loyalty to Bo, to the point of putting herself in danger. She fights the monsters and is on the front lines with her friends. And she does it in stilettos.

3. Teen Wolf
I have plans to do a post on Teen Wolf as a whole during the winter, when the second half of season three starts again. Or maybe earlier than that. Anyway. Though they are not the main character of the series, Allison and Lydia are certainly two of the best. Allison transforms from reserved girl to bad-ass werewolf hunter with knives. And Lydia is the smartest one of the bunch right from the start.

Just a Note

While I try to avoid spoilers as much as I possibly can, this is NOT a spoiler free blog.

Searching. While Hiding.*

Following the recent theme of shows with female leads, I want to tell you about the most recent show I caught up on. A show called Lost Girl. Don't let "girl" fool you. Bo, the main character of this supernatural series, is far from girlhood.

The Canadian show revolves around the (new) life of a woman named Bo, who has been running from her past and herself since she was a teenager. Why has she been running? Well...whoever she has sex with dies. Let me explain. During the first episode we, and Bo, discover that she is part of a race called Fae, and her specific species is called succubus. And succubus feed on the sexual "chi" of others. Since she grew up not knowing that she was Fae, she did not learn how to control her abilities, hence the trail of happy dead bodies. She is told that she must choose light or dark Fae life, because that is how things work in that world, and she refuses to align herself.

And so begins three seasons of awesome. Bo is a bad-ass, bisexual, strong-willed woman, who is not ashamed of her need for sex. The fact that no one ever calls her a "slut" is another reason I love this show. There is a host of strong female characters. Bo, her best friend Kenzi, Lauren the doctor, Bo's first love interest's new girlfriend. I could go on.

I'm so glad to watch a show where there are more recurring strong female characters than male characters. There are lots of shows with male leads, and not many with female mains like Bo. She is respected by the other characters. She is a leader. That is exactly what I want from my favorite characters.

There are three seasons of this show. The first two are on Netflix, but since the third just ended you'll have to find it elsewhere. I believe the fourth season starts in November. However. It is a Canadian show on a Canadian channel. So we might have to wait until it gets online to watch it.

*I should note that the title is from the theme. Which is one of the most ridiculous and annoying themes I have ever encountered. It is literally the only thing I dislike about the show.

RIP Bunheads It Was Too Soon. Way Too Soon.

Oh ABC Family. You don't know what you had. Bunheads was the best original show you ever produced. And instead of keeping the magic alive, because that show was truly magical, you killed it. Axed it. For what? You're other shows have absolutely nothing on Bunheads.

Don't believe me? Think Pretty Little Liars is worth losing some show that only had one season? Wrong. So. Wrong.

Bunheads is/was the brainchild of Amy Sherman-Palladino, the writer and creator of Gilmore Girls (another show I used to watch). Gilmore Girls was famous for it's witty fast talking characters, especially the two main characters, Lorelai and her daughter Rory. Sherman left the show when WB got gobbled up and turned into The CW, and the show was canceled not long after that.

But back to Bunheads. It is the story of a professional dancer, Michelle (played by the talented Sutton Foster) who unintentionally got stuck in Vegas as a showgirl then got married (drunk) to a suitor she barely knew, and then moved back to his tiny hometown with him. The suitor (SPOILER ALERT) dies in a car accident the same episode. Leaving Michelle with all his worldly possessions, even though his mother is still alive. Awkward.

The show follows Michelle as she tries to adjust to small-town living with her mother-in-law (played by the same woman who played Emily Gilmore in Gilmore Girls), who owns and operates a ballet/dance studio. It also follows the lives of four of the bunheads (ballerinas) and their struggles with body issues, boys, and absentee parents.

It is truly a beautiful, funny, and just amazing show. I was devastated to hear that it was being canceled after only one season. The characters were extremely likable, and each show ended with an incredible dance number by one of the characters.

I watched all of it at once on Amazon Prime (free 30 day trial because that's how I roll), and that's the only place I know has all the episodes right now. But find it. Watch it. Love it. I'm sure you will.

Pretty Tough...To Not Watch This Over and Over

Ever since I started seriously committing my time to watching television shows on Netflix, I (and my best friend), have also committed time to watching the other things our favorite TV actors have done. Sometimes, they are made for TV movies that are so incredibly bad, they deserve all the awards.

Pretty Tough is an example of a show we watched because an actress from a different show stars in it. The actress is Adelaide Kane, who plays Cora Hale on MTV's Teen Wolf (a show I will talk about at a later date). The show is on Hulu for free and there are only five episodes.

It is a beautiful show. Packed to the brim with teen angst and "love what you got" lessons, it was/is totally worth the couple hours one needs to finish the show. You'll laugh, you'll cry...you'll probably just laugh. You'll shout "OH NO SHE DIDN'T." And you'll be glad you decided to give this show a chance.

Saving Rock and Roll

So I went to see Fall Out Boy (with openers Panic! At The Disco and 21 Pilots) last night at Liacouras Center at Temple University in Philadelphia. I know this is technically a blog about TV shows, but I also posted about my Green Day show, and I talk about movies, and the title is justifiably entertaining. And all those are forms of entertainment. So without further ado...

So once again I had floor tickets. My friend and I waited in line for three hours, and then in the crowd for an hour, waiting for 21 Pilots to come on. I had planned to listen to 21 Pilots weeks before the show, but it didn't happen. They were really good. They both had amazing energy, and their music is unique and exciting. They were quite a few people in the crowd singing along and basically everyone was moving in some way.

Then. It was time for Panic! At The Disco. Now, Panic! is a huge part of the reason I begged my friend to go with me to this tour. I've adored Panic! since their first album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. And they've only gotten better and better since. Unfortunately for me (and possibly others, I'm not a mind reader) my favorite member (person) drummer, Spencer Smith was not drumming. Due to personal reasons.* However. They absolutely killed it. Brendon Urie (singer) has an amazing voice, and is definitely not afraid to show it off. He was hitting high notes every time he could sneak one in. They only played ten songs, but each one was spectacularly done. I actually blew out my voice screaming the words back at them. I couldn't stop grinning the entire time. And the rest of the crowd were just as into it as I was. Jumping, screaming, and waving their arms about.

And soon after, Fall Out Boy (here on known as FOB) took the stage. I am a HUGE FOB fan. When they took their hiatus four years ago, I was terrified they would never come back. But they did. In a huge way. I should start by saying that their new album Save Rock and Roll is a perfect album. Not one song is skipable. Just like all their other albums. This was my first time seeing them live, so I was extremely excited. And the months of waiting, the sore shoulders and throat that I have right now, totally. worth. it. It was one of the best shows I have ever been to. In every way. From the lights, to the videos playing behind them, to the balloons during "Young Volcanoes." It's hard to pin down what was my favorite moment of the set. Perhaps it was during the song "Save Rock and Roll" when they played a slideshow of iconic bands and artists and chanted along with the crowd to the ending notes,. Or Joe Trohman's and Andy Hurley's solos. Maybe when Brendon Urie came out to sing "20 Dollar Nosebleed" and back flip off a riser. It could be Pete's inspirational speeches, or when he had everyone in the stands do the wave. They played my favorite song from the new album live. Or maybe it was Patrick Stump accidentally kicking a mic stand into a girl's face and being really apologetic about it. (She was absolutely fine, and he was adorable about it.) Maybe it was the acoustic set they played in the middle of the set on a riser smack dab in the center of the crowd.

Truth is. I don't have a favorite moment. Because I loved every second. And there are too many moments that I could write about. I wish there was a way to make you feel what I feel, and felt, after seeing them live. Because its the kind of happiness and excitement and awe that I just can't seem to accurately put into words. Even out loud I just keep saying to people "I'm just SO HAPPY!" and flailing my arms around. It was amazing. Simply. Amazing.

Thanks to my friend Jess for going with me and driving.

A Note About This Blog

So I started this blog as part of a semester long project for my Composing Cyberspace class. And I did have every intention of continuing during the summer, but I worked basically everyday.

I have another class with the same professor, called Writing and Computers, that requires a blog as well. So I'm just continuing with this blog. So you may see a post that has nothing to do with television shows. Unless you are in my class or you are my Prof, (hello Dr. Ray) feel free to ignore them.

Tatiana Maslany is YOU...probably

So the first show I marathoned this past summer was the new BBC show "Orphan Black."

It stars Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, and Tatiana Maslany.
No. I'm not kidding. It's difficult to tell you the plot of the show without giving too many spoilers but I'll give it a go.

Clones. I think that's all you need to know.

Tatiana manages to be the BEST ACTRESS EVER, and she was ROBBED of an Emmy nomination. The whole Clone concept is something that really shouldn't work, but Tatiana plays each character so well that sometimes you forget that it's just one actress playing many different parts. The scenes where the clones interact with each other are particularly mind-bending.

Check it out. You will give Tatiana Maslany all of your awards after doing so. And wondering if she is actually you.

Wow. It's been awhile. Sorry about that. I haven't finished Doctor Who, but I will...eventually. For now, I will just act like the between posts isn't even there. So on that note...

Brief Apology

Hello readers!

You may have noticed that I haven't posted about last week's Doctor Who yet. And here is why. I'm hearing impaired, so I watch TV with the closed captioning. For some reason on Saturday they weren't working when I tuned into watch DW. And they have accents. So basically, I haven't seen the new episode yet, but. I'm going to watch it today. It's on my Ondemand service and there will (hopefullly?) be captions.

So I will post about it As Soon As Possible, I will try to get it done before the next episode, but you should know that I have a ten page paper due on Monday.

Thank you for your patience!

Oh Memories, Where'd You Go?

Last week's episode of Doctor Who was one the episodes that made you go "aawww Doctor." I had a feeling it would be one of those times when he mentioned his grand-daughter. Whenever the Doctor drops a line about is dearly departed family, you know the rest of the episode is going to tug on your heart strings.

This also marked the first time Clara took an adventure in the TARDIS to a whole new world...where everyone's soul was going to be eaten to appease a giant god. Well, not *everyone's* soul at first, only after they made it angry. But Clara did learn the two rules of being with the Doctor, we don't stand by and watch things go wrong, and when we find something precious we try to save it at all costs.

Honestly. I don't think Doctor Who is going to get back to the glory it was when I started watching it until its head writer Stephen Moffat is gone. For one thing, sexism. And I am a feminist. For another, if this is yet another season where the way to solve the problem is to just reset the universe my head will explode. It was creative and astonishing the first time, but now it's just boring. Go away Moffat, your time has come.

This will not affect my watching the show, by the way.

Ta-ta for Now

And just like that, season four of Justified is over.

I thought, based on the previews from the previous episode, that the show-down in the baby's nursery would be an epic, episode long staring match. A 40 minute battle of wits. But it didn't take more than five minutes for Raylan to shoot down every bad guy. And then began Raylan's mission to find Nicky Augustine.

Raylan needed the successor of Theo Tonin (who had escaped out of country after losing Drew Thompson) to be his son, Sammy. Because if Nicky made a successful grab for power, Raylan and his family would be on his list. Not a good place to be. However, Raylan had been (finally) officially suspended that morning. So he couldn't go after Augustine as a U.S. Marshal. And Art told him if he did he shouldn't come back. Luckily Sammy got some guts and managed to take out Augustine himself.

Meanwhile, Boyd and Ava had made the decision to move Delroy's body. Delroy was the man running the brothel before Ava. Ava shot him, and Ellen May witnessed it. But Murphy's law was governing them during the episode, and everything that could go wrong did. The police found the body first, Raylan picked up Boyd to get Augustine, and then they were double-crossed. Now it looks like poor Ava is going to the big house.

And once again, for the last time, Raylan and Boyd are the same person. It's the end of the season, and they have both gotten what they started chasing at the beginning. Raylan caught Drew Thompson, a promotion worthy feat. And Boyd now controls the heroin business in Kentucky. But at the end of the episode, they were just two lonely men, standing in empty houses.

I Hope You Had the Time of Your Life

I realize the season finale of Justified happened this week and I will make that post soon, but first things first. This is a blog about entertaining shows, so I'm going to tell you about the best night of my life (last night April 3rd) because I went to see Green Day. So this blog post comes in three parts, 1) brief backstory 2) earlier in the day/Best Coast 3) Green Day.

Part One: A Brief History of Green Day and Me
I started listening to Green Day when American Idiot came out, about eight years ago. I was around 12 years old. It was my mom who introduced me to the band. She loved American Idiot, and she basically forced me to listen to it in the car on our way to pick up my younger sister. That was the last time I had to be forced to listen to Green Day. They are my favorite band and the band that helped me get to all my other favorite bands. They mean more to me than I could put into words. So you can imagine that when my original date was canceled, I was devastated. But my wonderful parents, who know how much this stuff means to me, and how long I've been waiting to see them, told me that if I found a way into Philly, they'd put in $100 for a ticket. I found a ride, and a ticket was bought. Bringing us to part two.

Part Two: The Events Leading up the the Event
So yesterday I woke up and my first thought was TODAY I SEE GREEN DAY. Yes, it was in all caps in my head. The countdown that I had started in January was finally over. As I waited for three o'clock to roll around, I started to (literally) sweat with anticipation. I thought I was going to puke from the excitement. I usually get like that right before concerts, but this concert was eight years in the making, so it was magnified tenfold. Finally it was three and time to leave for the venue. I got there at five, and doors were *supposed* to open at 5:30, but when are these things on time? So I and my fellow Green Day fans stood outside in the cold and wind for an extra hour before we were finally let inside. I found what seemed to be a good spot, and settled in.

The opener was Best Coast, and that night they had the awkward set that I'm sure every opener has had at least once. They played, we stood there like fish. They weren't bad, although there was more bass than necessary, we just really didn't care all that much. We were there to see Green Day. So onto part three.

Part Three: Wherein I Almost Lose a Shoe and Cry
Suddenly. The stage lights came on. We started screaming. And there, coming out from backstage...was a man in a pink bunny suit, double-fisting beers. We sang along to Blitztreg Bop as he chugged one of the beers and finally staggered off stage. And THEN Green Day ran on the stage. I feel I should mention this. Green Day has a lot of fans. And they are all ages. So mixed in with the crowd of 20-somethings like myself, there were ten year olds with their parents. I was near the front and only had a brief moment to think "I don't think this is a good place to be." before all hell broke loose. Instead of ending up between or behind the mosh pit, I'd ended up in front of it. So when the pink bunny appeared there was a rush to the stage and a lot of pushing. And then I almost lost my shoe. The crowd was pushed hard to the right during the third song and someone stepped on the back of my shoe. I managed to get it back on my foot, but I was worried for a second. Eventually, I made it behind the mosh pit and was still able to see the members of my favorite band. They played old songs and new songs. I screamed every word. I jumped. I danced. I helped a mosh pit.

I knew that the traditional closer, "Good Riddance (Time of your Life)", wasn't on the setlist, because Rolling Stone had posted the setlist. I was bummed when I saw that, because I felt it was part of Green Day's concert experience. So when they finished the encore (not with Good Riddance) and the house lights went up, I was the only one not confused. We started to slowly make our way out. But then. Billie Joe came back. Got an acoustic. And played "Good Riddance." And I cried. Best night ever.

Extreme Special Thanks to
My roommate Nicole and her parents for taking me into and picking me up from Philly.
My parents who have always understood my love for music and concerts. Thank you so much for the ticket.
Green Day. For all the music and for an amazing unforgettable night.

There's 104 days of summer vacation...

is the opening line of the theme song for the world's best cartoon, Phineas and Ferb. It runs on the Disney Channel, and in my humble opinion it is the only good show on the Disney Channel nowadays.

It features brothers Phineas and Ferb (as the title indicates), their older sister Candance, and their three friends. The plot of the show is simple. Over summer vacation the brothers have to come up with interesting ways to entertain themselves.

Simple. And yet. The activities that Phineas and Ferb get up to are not your run-of-the-mill summer activities. Or if they are, they amp them up to epic proportions. This is where the beauty of cartoons comes into play. The characters can do whatever they want. So the brothers build space-high roller coasters, hold concerts, and invent and build impossible machines.

But one of the great things about this show is how self-aware it is. It often pokes fun at itself, thereby transcending from a show just for kids, to a show for everyone. My favorite thing is the reaction of adults towards Phineas and Ferb when they get deliveries. Perhaps in another cartoon, there would be no questioning the main characters' actions at all. But the delivery people always say "Hey aren't you a little young to...?"

And there's always a side adventure with Perry the Platypus, the family pet/secret agent, and his bumbling arch nemesis Doofensmirch. Perry always wins.

And poor Candance. Spending her eternal summer attempting to "bust" her brothers projects to their mom, ending their fun once and for all. Yet something totally unexpected happens, wiping away all trace of her brothers adventures, and leaving her looking like an idiot.

There are so many things I could write about this show. But you should go discover it instead. It's on Netflix. And the Disney Channel. So watch and enjoy some impossibilities.

IT IS NOT A SNOGBOX

Hello readers! Tuesday is the last episode for the fourth season of Justified, but fret not. There's always another show to talk about. And starting today, that show is Doctor Who.

The second half of series seven started today. New companion, new TARDIS interior, new suit for the Doctor. I highly recommend that you watch this show (from the beginning obviously) if you haven't already. It's on Netflix, it's amazing, annnnnd it's sort of hard to explain. But I'll try to give a brief synopsis.

The Doctor is an alien. He flies around in his time-traveling spaceship call the TARDIS (time and relative dimension in space) that's bigger on the inside. He travels with a companion, or two depending on what series you watch. He has adventures. He saves worlds. He loves humanity. I think that's brief enough. If you haven't watched the new episode or started the series but have plans to. Stop reading. Spoilers are next.

So onto the new start. I've been excited about the new companion, even though I loved the Ponds with all my heart. Clara Oswin Oswald is the newest guest on the TARDIS. And she is shrouded in mystery. Based on the fact that she has died twice. In different time periods. And is somehow still alive in modern day London. It's all very complicated. I've been falling in love with her since the Christmas special, when instead of the usual reaction to the TARDIS she said, "It's smaller on the outside." So sassy. I have high hopes for series 7. But I never judge any show based on the first episode. In this week's we were introduced to "The Great Intelligence", no doubt the super villain for the series. And the Doctor saved a bunch of people from being downloaded. Although I do have a question. When their souls were re-uploaded into their dead bodies...wouldn't some of them have been in coffins? Or brain dead? Far be it from me to question plot holes though. Onto the next!

P.S.- Doctor Who is on BBCA Saturdays at 9. Enjoy!

The Actual Review by Emily (tm)

This Tuesday, I went to see a pre-screening of the Host, directed by Andrew Niccol, starring  Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel and Diane Kruger. Based off the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer, the movie takes place in a not-so-distant future where aliens have invaded Earth. The few humans who haven’t been taken as hosts for the aliens live in hiding,

As a fan of the book, I was a little disappointed by the adaptation. The movie focused less on background and plot, and shoved romance to the front and center. While the book is largely about love – both romantic and familial – it’s also a tale of humanity being taken over by aliens. The trailers for the film were action packed, fast paced and exciting; in reality it was about 90% dramatics and only 10% action. While the story does put a new and interesting twist on the idea of a love triangle, the characters fell in love too quickly and unrealistically, and I was told by a woman who had not read the book before watching the movie that she had a hard time following and believing it. On top of that, the acting was definitely sub-par.

That being said, it wasn’t all bad. The scenery, for example, was amazing. We get to see gorgeous shots of Louisiana swamps, New Mexican deserts and an underground cavern where the rebel humans live. I also have to give them credit for making a movie like this work in the first place. When I first read the Host in 2008, I figured it would never be made into a movie. Having the main characters be a girl and the alien who lives inside of her makes for a confusing film, but they made it work.
I would definitely recommend that fans of the book check it out, and anyone else who might be interested should give it a shot. It’s worth it for Jake Abel. (I couldn’t resist, I really love Jake Abel.) The Host will be in theaters starting this Friday, March 29.

A Review by Emily (tm)

The next post will be a movie review written by my best friend, Emily. She goes to school in Boston and was lucky enough to get free tickets to the pre-screening of the new movie "Host." It comes out tomorrow, so I asked her to write a review.

It's a Girl! (also I totally called it)

There's just one episode left of season four, and it looks like it's going to be a doozy.

But first things first. After almost a whole season of not being seen Winona appeared in last night's episode to announce the sex of her and Raylan's baby. As you can see from the title of the post, they are going to have a daughter. But all seemed not well in Raylan's head. He caught Drew Thompson, and his suspension was about to start, yet something was clearly wrong. When Shelby/Drew demanded that Ellen May (the hooker he ran off with) be put into custody for her safety or he wouldn't talk, Raylan insisted that he be the one to get her. Really insisted. You'd think that with the news of a daughter and mandatory time off he'd be happy, but there he was, begging with Art to wrap up the case. It was a little worrisome.

But more worrisome things were to come.

This week mainly focused on the underbelly's dealings. Johnny is tied to a chair for betraying Boyd, and Tonin needs Ellen May to be dead to tie up loose ends, but no one can find her, and Limehouse (who was a main part of last season's arch) refuses to trust anyone. So Limehouse was housing (haha punny) Ellen May, then let her go, and she eventually ended up at the church from the beginning of the season.

This is where the thing I totally called happened. SPOILER ALERT if you didn't already guess. I told my dad, who also watches the show, that I thought Colt wasn't going to make it past this season, and that Tim was going to be the one who did him in. AND I WAS RIGHT AND HE WAS WRONG BECAUSE HE THOUGHT JOHNNY WOULD DO IT. So there, dad. Victory is mine.

But the ending. Oh boy. When I recognized Tonin's guy in Winona's nursery. I was mad. Why do they have to pick on the pregnant lady?

Next week is the season finale. And I'm sure it will be one to remember.

Tensions: They Were High

The mystery of Drew Thompson has been solved! And what a plot-twist it was. Shelby the Sheriff is the mastermind fugitive. Art summed up Shelby/Drew's life with one word. Badass. The man was a police officer twice! He was helping Raylan find Drew! He ran off with a hooker half his age!

Of course he didn't get very far. First caught by the bad guys and then found and arrested by the Marshals before the worse guys could get to him. And then the challenge was getting him out of Harlan.

The hero of last week's episode was Constable Bob. He got the beating of a lifetime, but refused to give the location of Shelby/Drew. Then he stabbed his interrogator with his handy hidden knife, right in the femoral, and that was the end of that.

Last week's episode also showcased more of the Boyd/Raylan parallel. In a somewhat creepy way. Every move Raylan made, Boyd knew he was doing it. Just by knowing him. Also featured was some Boyd/Raylan banter. My personal favorite banter.

So Shelby (narrowly) escaped from Harlan with U.S. Marshal Rachel, and everyone in the underbelly is going to be in a lot of trouble for letting him slip by.

I'M RUNNING AROUND SCREAMING

...in my head. In reality I'm just sitting here grinning the biggest grin I can grin. Earlier today I wrote about the Veronica Mars movie kickstarter that had just started. Less than 24 hours later THE GOAL OF 2 MILLION DOLLARS HAS BEEN REACHED. It's apparently a kickstarter record, raising 1 million in the first four hours of opening, but while this whole thing is extremely exciting, it's not exactly surprising. Veronica Mars has dedicated fans. These are the people who protested the cancellation by sending thousands of mars bars to the Warner Bros office, and an airplane into the sky, and that was before the time of social media. Though not everyone who donated was a dedicated fan, one man paid $10,000 for a speaking role, and then said he's not even a big fan of the show. I think the thing that clinched it was Logan's smolder in the video. It's a great smolder.

Honestly, this is one of the greatest things I've ever watched happen. It's an amazing show, with an amazing cast, that's just really...amazing. It totally deserves the proper send-off the movie is going to provide.

Seriously. You should go watch it. Right now.

BIG NEWS (well for me)

A new kickstarter was started today. For those of you who may not know what kickstarter is, it's basically a funding website for projects. So for example a band might want to record a new album but they don't have the money so they open a kickstarter with a goal of $10,000. They promote it, most likely with goodies involved, and people back it by pledging money. The money is only taken if the goal is reached.

BUT BACK TO THE KICKSTARTER THAT WAS STARTED TODAY.

You should remember my top five list, it was only a few posts ago, and a little show that was on it called Veronica Mars. I told you that the first two seasons were the best, and it was canceled during the third. So basically at the end of the third season, there was no. closure. And it was horrible and heart-breaking for everyone involved.

But now. There is hope. For a kickstarter has begun to make...wait for it...THE VERONICA MARS MOVIE. This is one of the best days ever. I'm going to leave a link to the kickstarter page that has a hilarious announcement video featuring the cast members of the show.

I strongly encourage you to watch the show, and if you like (love) it as much as I do, to also consider pledging to the kickstarter to make our (my) dream come true.

Update: Grey's Anatomy

Everyone is still stupid, I still hate them, I wouldn't let them come near me with a stethoscope, and I still can't stop watching.
So last week I gave a top five list of TV shows I think you should watch. I am always looking for new shows to watch. Yesterday, though I haven't finished Grey's Anatomy yet, I started the Showtime series Shameless because the episodes will only be available on my OnDemand service for so long, and I need captions. But, I  never like to start a show without knowing what show to watch after. So my question for you, dear readers (if anyone is even reading this), is what show do you think I should watch and why? It can be an old show, a new show, or an upcoming show. Doesn't matter, give me your recommendations and maybe I'll give them a try.

You're Stupid and I Hate You

So I don't know how it happened, I think it was boredom, but I have started watching a new show. Grey's Anatomy. I never had any plans to watch this show, but my best friend is on her spring break and I'm bored and it's on Netflix. So this title is partially me talking to myself. Why am I still watching this show when I hate more characters than I like? I don't know. It's like crack. Show crack. I'm two seasons deep and I don't see myself coming up for air anytime soon.

So let me explain why I hate this show. The characters. They are totally unable to get their shit together. (excuse my french). But I would not let any of them operate on me. Their personal lives are so intertwined with their professional lives that they can't possibly know which way is up.

Every episode I just sit and ask the characters "what are you doing?" "why are you doing that?" "WHAT ARE YOU DOING STOP IT." "YOU ARE STUPID." And of course. They never listen. But they should. In my opinion, you shouldn't sleep with your boss, or flirt with your patients, or attempt to make the girl you like have feelings for you when she's feeling sad and vulnerable then get mad at her for deciding she doesn't want to sleep with you after all.

They are messes disguised as people. And I can't stop watching.

Oh What a Tangled Web We Weave.

So. Last night's episode of Justified was dramatic, to sum it up in a word. By the end 7 people were dead. Raylan's father, Arlo, died and he met a pretty girl, and Boyd got himself a bigger shovel to dig his hole. It's interesting to see how the lives of Raylan and Boyd are suddenly not so disimilar. Sure, Boyd is a criminal, Raylan is a lawman, but at this point that is were the differences end.

It has been clear from the beginning of the season that Raylan is thinking of his unborn child. The very first episode features him doing some illicit bounty-hunting for extra cash for baby. Boyd asked Ava to marry him and promised a respectable life for their children (and grandchildren). And both are using the elusive and unknown Drew Thompson to try and reach their goals.

Raylan wants to solve the case in hope of being promoted, and Boyd is using his new connections to set up a Dairy Queen. Both men came from Harlan, went in opposite directions and are now walking the same path with the same motivation. Family.

Top 5 TV Shows You Should Watch

So since this is a blog about TV shows, I thought it was time to give you a brief introduction to what else you should watch. So here are the top five shows you should watch.

1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

BTVS is no longer on air, but it's worth a few trips to the library to get the season box sets, or if you have Netflix all seven seasons are available on instant. Don't let the vampire slayer title throw you off, she also battles demons, witches, monsters, puberty, and more apocalypses than seasons of the show.

2. Charmed
Charmed is also a show no longer airing new episodes, but I believe re-runs are played on some channel. Again, the show is on Netflix instant. Featuring three lovely Halliwell sisters and their sudden discovery that they are witches, Charmed will grab your heart and never let go.

3. Supernatural
Keeping with the paranormal theme, (which isn't necessarily on purpose these are just the shows I watch) Supernatural is the story of two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, and their never-ending quest to rid the world of monsters. Unlike the previous two shows, the brothers are not in possession of superpowers, just super destinies. The show is currently running on the CW network and just got picked up for the ninth season. Older seasons are on Netflix instant. Note: the fandom likes to pretend season six doesn't exist, so have fun with that.

4. Doctor Who
This is probably my favorite show out of the five on the list. It was the first my best friend and I ever marathoned and I love it so much I want to get a DW tattoo. Right now, Doctor Who is on its 11th doctor and in its 7th series of the revamped show. It is not necessary to watch the series from the 60s, you can just start with the new version. It's all on Netflix instant, and the second half of series 7 returns this month. I would explain the concept of the show, but to quote someone on tumblr "I understand Doctor Who until I have to explain it to someone." Meaning: it's hard to explain. But it involves time travel and aliens, so there you go.

5. Veronica Mars
Starring Kristen Bell as the tiny, blond, ferocious detective, this show is so good that when it was canceled during its third season, fans protested by sending a thousand mars bars to the network, and hired an airplane to write "bring back Veronica" in the sky. Alas, it didn't work, and season three ends with no wrap up. But don't let that deter you from watching. The first two seasons are the best, the endings to the season long mysteries have conclusions that I did NOT see coming. Veronica Mars is not on Netflix instant, unfortunately, but it is on the old WB network site.

Drug Lords and Mysteries and Foot Puns, OH MY

So far season four FX's show Justified has lived up to the standards of the first three seasons. It started with a bang, or perhaps a better word is splat, when a parachutist crash landed in Harlan in the 50s along with the cocaine and money he jumped with. And so the mystery and the season began.  So let's sum up the season so far by character, shall we?

Raylan Givens: The main character of the series has had quite the time in season four. He lost a bail jumper to two teenagers when they stole his car, a bail jumper that he wasn't suppose to have in the first place. He got the bail jumper back, only to shoot him in last week's episode. And so it goes. He and his girlfriend Lindsey are soooo over. Since she stole all his ill-gotten bail jumper collecting money and ran off with her convict husband. The season's most pathetic sight was Raylan lying on the ground right before Lindsey shot him with a crowd-control beanbag and said "I knew you liked me." Not really, Raylan. If you were expecting more baby-daddy Raylan drama, you'll be disappointed. So far there has been one appearance of Winona, though more than one mention of his impending fatherhood. And as always, Raylan is rolling in his daddy issues. Because what is a season of Justified without Arlo screwing something up?

Boyd Crowder: Boyd was having trouble with his drug trade at the beginning of the season, due to the church that moved into Harlan. He quickly dealt with that. Or rather, the rattlesnake that killed the preacher did. But Boyd's got other things on his mind now. He just proposed to Ava, over a box of money, and he's working for Winn Duffy with the hopes of introducing heroin to the fine junkies of Harlan county. Go for the win Boyd.

Colton: The newest character on the show does not look like he is going to last long. Or at least past the season. The Ex-military police and current junkie henchman can't seem to do anything right. He allowed Ellen May, the prostitute with a heart of gold, to slip away when he was suppose to kill her. You had one job, Colton.

The Rest of 'Em: Art just wants to retire, but everyone who works for him is a mess. Tim suddenly has his own story line, and it involves Colton. Rachel is just as bad-ass as ever, even though she wouldn't let Raylan shoot his girlfriend's husband. Arlo is in jail being cranky and not speaking. Cousin Johnny wants to kill Boyd, but has to wait until the elusive Drew Thompson is found.

Drew Thompson: The no-actually-dead parachutist is apparently still in Harlan. Only Arlo knows the name he's been using. And as stated previously, he's too cranky to give it up.

Hello and Welcome

Hello readers! This blog will be about television. Mostly about the show Justified on FX. It is on every Tuesday at 10 and 11. I will write a new post about each episode. Since the season already started, I have to catch up on posts for episodes that have already aired. But this blog will not just feature one show. My best friend and I spend all of our time watching shows, so I will be posting about those as well. Therefore, I will post at least one new entry a week. I figured since I watch so much television, I may as well talk about it.

Enjoy!
